SAKAMENA is a brand created by Valérie, who has been living in Madagascar for more than 20 years. Seduced by the know-how of the Malagasy people, true magicians who transform raffia fiber into a work of art, she imagines a line of chic and practical bags and pouches.
The term refers to both a species of palm (raffia farinifera) and the plant fiber extracted from this plant. It grows in tropical regions, and its leaves can reach 20 meters long and 3 meters wide. The harvested leaves are cut, then peeled and lacerated to obtain fibers of the same length. These fibers are then rinsed, dried and gathered into bundles. They can be dyed or used naturally.
